Classic animation scoring meets New Orleans Second-Line Jazz — Red Fish, Blue Fish offers a highly score-driven series of 7-minute shorts that each center around and educate on two opposite words. Chock full of zany storytelling and often containing a moral at the end—Red Fish, Blue Fish takes the audience on a journey of discovery, while having almost no character dialogue! The score, which features performances from members of the most prestigious New Orleans bands-in-residence, represents a new approach to composing for animation, utilizing the language of collective improvisation in addition to jazz harmony. In a typical episode, the titular characters will each be represented by their signature instrument (Red with Trombone and Blue with clarinet), and the score will often establish themes or motifs for the two words featured in the episode. Those themes will then be re-harmonized and re-interpolated throughout the episode to help communicate the story to our audience as they follow Red and Blue on their adventures
